When diesel tank is 1/4 full engine wants to cut out. Also when idling sometimes the accelerator will not respond until I fully let go and accelerate again to get response.

If it is cutting out at 1/4 tank you may have a problem with the fuel pick up in the tank, if there is not a problem above this point I would be looking at the pick up first.
