How can I change the bulbs that light the climate controls? I cannot find a way to get behind the panel.

Which lights are you actually trying to replace?

The left-hand temperature control is now dark at night. The control works, but the lighting behind it does not. I believe a bulb has burned out and I want to replace it.

My Volvo dealer says it requires at least an hour of labor at $99/hr. I should be able to do it for less, but cannot find a way to get behind the console panel and I do't want to break something.

Thanks for your attention and help.

It is kinda tricky to remove the climate control module and would suggest you disconnect the battery while removing the climate control module since the SRS module is tied in on that circuit of the network and you will set the light to come on the cluster that will require you to go and have it reset at the dealership. Now I have never replaced a bulb on one of this because normally it is an LED light that goes out and those are not replaceable. The LED lights are usually for the buttons like the A/C on indicator seat heaters on button if you have one. Before disconnecting the battery make sure the gear selector is all the way back in drive with the hand brake applied.....................

Remove the panel (1) above the gear selector: Carefully pry off at the back using a weatherstrip tool.

NOTE: The gear selector must be in the rearmost position before the dashboard environment panel can be removed.

Remove:

the two screws (2) on the lower edge of the panel.
the panel (3).
NOTE: The radio component and the dashboard environment panel are complementary and are mounted at the join with hooked mountings.

HINT: To facilitate removal: Angle the dashboard environment panel outwards so that it is possible to insert a couple of fingers between the centre console and the dashboard environment panel. Pull the dashboard environment panel downwards at the same angle.

HINT: The dashboard environment panel is correctly secured. Force is required to remove it.

connectors.
Lift out the panel.

Once you have it out the bulbs should be in the back. Call Volvo's parts department and make sure they have the bulbs in stock since they may come with the socket as one piece. Order the bulbs if they do not have in stock which I am pretty sure they will not since they probably hardly replace any? And do that first before removing the climate unit out.

Install:
In reverse order.

Good luck to you and I hope this instructions help you out.
