2000 Volvo S80 Computer Failures

2000 Volvo S80 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
It seems that our S-80 is always having a computer problem. Particularly steering wheel controls become inactive. We are able to restore by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it providing a "reset" of the computer. Is this a common problem? Any suggestions on easier way to reset?
