Left turn at low speed causes squealing noise
Steering problem
2004 Volvo S60 Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 76000 miles
My Volvo s60 makes a squealing noise when making a hard, slow speed turn (ie U-turn). The noise appears to be coming from the engine. I've noticed this mostly on left turns, but have heard it on right turns as well.
When this happens it feels like the steering becomes harder to control, and the sound is somewhat high pitched. It does not sound like a metal-on-metal grinding sound.
After straightening the wheel, the sound continues, but not as loudly. After a minute or so, if I don't make any more similar turns the noise completely goes away.
