2000 Volvo S40 Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive Automatic 113000 miles

My volvo runs great. However I have the Check Engine Light on now for a while. Originally I had the service light on and my husband did the service on it, (oil change, filters etc.) But he did not have the ability to reset the service light. So I have the service light on for about 2 minutes then it goes off but the check engine light is on all the time. Could the service light be what is causing my check engine light to have come on and stayed on? I do not have any problems at all with my car. It runs perfectly and starts perfectly everyday. I know I need an alignment on the tires, I just don't think this would cause the check engine light to turn on. Anything will help.

The alignment issue will not cause a problem with the vehicles check engine light.

Chances are you need to reset the light, remove hte negative battery cable for 10 minutes and then reconnect and run vehicle.

Does light reapear? If yes then there is a issue and the vehicle will have to be scanned to find out what is wrong.

Autozone does this for free. But any mechanic can do this for you, for a fee though.
