1992 Volvo 960 Gear Position Sensor
1992 Volvo 960, 240,000 miles, auto transmission.
Replaced gear position sensor. Car starts, goes and stays in 3rd gear; also will go into reverse, but not shift into 1st or 2nd.
What position should shift lever be in when sensor is inserted into transmission, and what position should sensor be in when inserted?
After car sat for over a month, it started and went through the correct gear sequence, i.e.-1st, 2d and 3d until stopped and shifted into reverse. When put into drive, car went directly into 3d gear.
Any other ideas?
