I recently replaced my thermostat and radiator hoses. The car ran fine for 2 months. I am now experiencing coolant loss and ocassional temoerature spikes when first starting off. The temp needle redlines then backs off to normal. I have also been adding coolant as I have been checking the level in the reservoir after every temp spike. I have seen now visible leaks from hoses, radiator, etc.

Hi billp5,

Thank you for the donation.

When coolant level is lower than normal, temperature spikes as you described are the symptoms.

Coolant looses sometimes are very difficult to detect with visual inspection as the leak is not fast enough to drip. At most you would only get stains and usually these are from joints of hoses.

You need to do a system pressure test to find the leakage.
