My 97 Volvo 850 glt is great except lately she whines when put into drive and the engine isn't warmed up. I put in Gunk Engine desludger for 5 min idling, then drained and put in 10-30 synthetic and new filter. I also drained the turbo pipe that holds another quart of dirty oil. She still whines when cold in drive, but less loud and for less time, such as 300 yards, about two tenths of a mile. What is causing this? Weak oil pump? Should I be worried?

Hi
So does not whine until placed into drive makes me think the trans is making whine. If car warms up then no whine? I would think turbo would whine without need to be in gear.
Let me know what you think
Thanks for donate

I don't think the transmission is involved because the sound doesn't appear if the engine warms up for two minutes after starting before going forward. I don't believe the transmission warms up in 2 min standing still, but the oil does that gets to the turbo adequately to avoid the whine.
