Bad EGR sensor

I have a 1991 Volvo 740 Turbo with 184,000 miles. It has an automatic transmission.

The check engine light is on. My volvo mechanic has diagnosed the egr sensor as bad. This was based upon the codes, and electronically testing the sensor. They have ordered replacements from vovlo. All three replacements to date, have not resolved the situation. They tested the replacements, and the new sensors have a different resistence than the original manufacturer's specs. They have not been able to get help from Volvo. Apparently it is rare for a 91 740 to have an egr sensor, unless it was a model delivered in California, which mine was. Any suggestions?

Have they cleaned out any carbon in the egr port? This must be cleaned right to the throttle plate. Or the position sensor will trip the code.

I spoke to the shop today, and they said it is the EGR temperature sensor.

Also, the replacement sensors have a higher resistance then the originals.
