My 88' volvo 240 with 200,000m has an issue with acceleration. It does fine when driving at low speeds, but around 35 mph it starts to have trouble accelerating. It also makes a noise(spinning rattle noise) when idleing and sometimes during acceleration. I drove this car from San Jose to Las Vegas with no problems. When I drove it through the mountains I used the third gear a lot to maintain speed limit. It didn't start having the problem until a week or two after the trip. Oh, and this is going to soud very noobish, there is a black rubber hose just hanging loosely underneath the engine, its visible when you look under the car.
