1987 Volvo 240 Stalls when coasting

The car now frequently stalls when coasting -- ignition off, all warning lights come on. Stalling has also happened occasionally when driving on the highway. Car can be started right away after stalling as if nothing had happened.

Hi Piet,

Seems the idling system needs smoe checking.

I would suggest checking the Throttle Position Sensor.

That's my first thought also, but you should have trouble when sitting at a stop light sometimes if the idle control is off. Maybe the engine is running lean. When your coasting at idle at high way speeds too much air is coming in and not enough fuel. Check the fuel and intake air control systems.
