1985 Volkswagen Van Oil pressure warning light

1985 Volkswagen Van 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 198000 miles
Oil pressure warning light comes on a low idle. It goes out when driving but comes on again when I stop at light and the engine RPM's decreases.
The owners repair manual says you should not drive the car when this occurs.

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge if normal replace the oil pressure switch abnormal could be the oil pump or engine bearings
