2006 Volkswagen TDI noise under dash

2006 Volkswagen TDI 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 107000 miles
I am getting a noise coming from under the passenger side dash when I start the car or when I switch from forward to reverse. It sounds like a small pump or motor. any ideas of what this could be?

no, a loud ckicl or hammering sound

Have the Climatronic scanned for stored fault codes, if no codes, perform
"Basic Setting".
Try driving with the climatronic OFF... still hearing the noise?
