2003 Volkswagen Passat door lock knob

2003 Volkswagen Passat 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 130000 miles
when replacing my drivers door window regulator,the little door lock push knob came undone.i cant figure out how it connects onto the lock mechanism inside the door.there is a little black clip in there but it doesnt seem to hold it well.
