Volkswagen Other Repair Question

Am/Fm Radio problem
1997 VW Golf. My radio is doing some weird stuff. The face sayS "SAFE" and when I press any button it has no response. The only way I can turn it on is by pressing the Mode button while I turn it on. But it only plays for 5 min and then I'm back to square one. I don't have my manual so i can't figure it. Anyone have any ideas?

call the dealer, sounds like the anti-theft mode has been set
