2002 Other Volkswagen Models car wont start

2002 Other Volkswagen Models 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 170000 miles
The car won't start . First it started only when it felt like it , for example one day it would start and the next , nothing. The alternator kept turning but nothing. I've tried repairing it , going to a car service or two but nobody knows what's up with it. Now it doesn't start at all. Its not a battery problem and not a mechanical I think but what the hell is it?
