2000 Other Volkswagen Models will not start with moisture

2000 Other Volkswagen Models 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles
I am having trouble getting my cabrio to start when there is any type of moisture, such as, rain,snow, or even dew in the morning.When I try to start it, it cranks and then just as Im turning the key back, it kind of puts, but will not start.When I finally do get it started it idles very rough and wants to die without me giving it gas. I was told it could possibly be the ignition coil,however, it did not show up on a diagnostic test. Please help!
