2005 Volkswagen GTI hard to start when cold

In the past 2 days i've found that it is hard to start my car after having it sit turned of for a couple of hours. when i go to turn it on the it will crank over but i need to pump the gas viciously for it to turn on. where do i start to fix the problem?
