1988 Volkswagen GTI alarm wont cut out

hi i have a mk2 golf GTI and the alarm went off and killed the battery wen i put a new one on the alarm carred on going off but it wont tern off with the fob and now i cant start it is there a way to reset it and if so haw please help me.
