1981 Volkswagen Caddy 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

Hi There

It's been 3 weeks since I've been a VW owner and I really like my pickup.
Before I go out and purchase a petrol engine to replace my diesel engine, I want to know if there is any way that I could make my 1981 VW Caddy 170 Diesel engine run quieter and smoother. Can I make it run as quiet as the new diesel engines?
I really hope you can help.

Hi there,

In a word, no. Older generation diesels are very noisy thats just the way they are, there have been some incredible advancements in diesel fuel delivery and design aspects that have allowed these quiet high speed engines, but your older engine is just a dinosaur, and a dinosaur it will remain.
