Noises problem

hi' i'm getting a rattling type noise from the bottom end of engine its at its worse when first starting up as it warms up it quietens right down to a slight tappy noise. when applying the pedal its goes louder like ollies in engine type noise the car runs and picks up fine with power but does tend to smoke especcially when applying a top up of oil until it warms up then its fine
