2000 Vauxhall Vectra light comes on while driving

2000 Vauxhall Vectra Manual 88000 miles
when i drive a light comes on,it is a car with a spanner going through it its says in the manual that it is a electrical fault and that the car has switched to an emergency running programme so that driving can continue i would like to know 1st what the problem could be and 2nd how far could i drive with this problem hope to hear some from you soon thank you sean

The fault could be anywhere on the electrical system .. you need to have the cars computer read to pinpoint the exact cause ... i would have it looked at as soon as possible ... the fault can only get worse not better ?
