1997 Vauxhall Cavalier Ignition failure/ starter motor

When ignition is turned on to start engine, starter motor turns slowly, failing to start engine. Why is this happening?

check battery for correct 12.5 volts ... check starter motor wiring is not corroded or worn away .. and lastly check or replace the starter motor !!
