1974 Other Triumph Models

Electrical problem
1974 Other Triumph Models 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 85000 miles

Greetings, the ingnition system (coil) craps out after a few hours of driving. It gets very hot and dies. After a few hours to cool, everthing is fine. any ideas? Also; 40,000 V coil, non ballasted, connected to a Pretronix dizzy and a MSD 6AL (runs off the battery and gets hot also). Coil is mounted on the block (original location) should I move it to the firewall? When hot, no spark from the coil or the MSD unit. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks, John

Have you considered installing a current limiting resistor?
The reason the engineers install a ballast or current limiting resister is to defeat the issues you are claiming.
