Car starts perfectly then once hot loses power. engine will tixck over perfectly but as soon as load is applied by trying to pull away engine misfires badly then dies. Starts and ticks over after. Could this be a coil breaking down?

HI there,

This could well be coil or leads breaking down, a check on an oscilloscope will tell the story.

HI there,

When a load is applied to the ignition system, such as acceleration, the internal combustion pressures increase so the spark at the plug must be very strong to jump the plug gap to spark, if there is a problem with the ignition and there is a easier path to earth for the spark the physics of electricity will determine that the spark will take the path of less resistance to earth, I,R causing a miss fire, now this may be the cause of your problem or just part of it, but to do a full diagnosis we must eliminated all possibilities.

Hi Mark,
What other possibilities do we need to eliminate? Fuel delivery is fine, comkpression test is fine, possible fuel evaporation is not an issue. Any other ideas?

Hi there,

Have you done the ignition system test yet? we need to prove that this is ok before moving on.
Have you done a diagnostic scan as you won't always get a check light with all codes.
