2007 Toyota Tundra removing exhaust
2007 Toyota Tundra V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 37000 miles
I have a 2007 Tundra and have previously removed the exhaust (just out of curiosity) to see what it sounds like. I had it off about a month and noticed huge mpg gains. Average of 3 mpg. I was getting 21 mpg on hwy pretty consistently.
I was told however that no muffler results in no backpressure and that will damage rings. I put the exhaust back on and noticed mpg gains disappear.
Is iy true that rings will be damaged? And if not, is there anything going to happen to the engine if exhaust removed?
Thanks,
Seth Daniels
