2000 Toyota Tundra starter access

2000 Toyota Tundra V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 141000 miles
when I try to start sometimes sounds like the solonoid is clicking but the starter is not engaging.
I can turn the key multiple times and all of a sudden it will engage.I've tried to get under the truck and locate the starter but can not see it from the bottom side nor the top?? How do you access it??
