Hi. My friend has a 93 toyota 4 runner that he blew the engine on. It had 131,000 miles and a 3.0 V6, which he replaced with a 1989 toyota pickup 3.0 v6 engine. The problem that he has is that there is no spark. The engine turns over and the timing is set, but it just wont start. It has a new distributor cap, rotor, wires and plugs. But we have no idea where to start and what could possibly be wrong? Any help would greatly appreciated.

I'am assuming that the new motor is the same, not only in size but things like the distributor, fuel system, wiring harness etc etc. You Started with the basics and checked for fuel and spark. First check power to the primary side of the coil. If you dohave power then you have a bad coil cap rotor or wires. If You have no power to the primary side of the coil then there is a problem with the iginition module, crank sensor or the wiring harness to it. If you have both then check that the timing is correct. I have one question; did you see the new motor running before you installed it? Good luck

We thought that it could possibly be the coil but we arent sure how to go about checking if its bad. The only thing that didnt match up on the wiring harness is the wiring to the sensor on the top of the engine below the EFI housing, he just replaced the harness with the one from the 89 engine. Not sure if that makes a difference. The guy that we got the motor from said that it was running before we got it.
Thanks for your help, its greatly appreciated.
