Overheating

My truck has started to heat up immediately (within 3-4 blocks) and continues to heat up rapidly, then seems to level off a little over halfway to the red line(normally levels off about 1/4 of the way). The heater still blows hot air. Does this sound like a thermostat problem? I don't want to take it out if it's not the problem. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff.

Know its been awhile since your post. Hope you have the problem corrected by now. If not, exercise extreme caution. Overheating is, in my opinion, Toyota's weakness. Having owned an 87 4x4, a 95 4Runner and a 99 Tacoma, have had major overheating headaches with all but Tacoma. After much trial and error, radiator needs to be suspected after 120-130k if all simple stuff has been verified ok.
