Terrible noise

I have a 2003 Toyota Matrix with approximately 47800 miles on it. When I accelerate to 50 MPH or higher it makes a terribly loud noise, almost deafening, really. It runs great, no catching or sputtering or loss of power just that terrible noise. What could the problem be?

Hi I have got a Toyota Corolla 2001, makes the same loud whirring noise above 60mph. I asked a mechanic and he said that it is probably the wheel bearing.

Did you got your problem fixed? If so, please let me know the cause.

Thanks,
Saurabh
