My 97 Toyota Avalon XLS with traction control has the ABS light on, so I tested the codes. It gave me every code from 21-28, which my Haynes book says are all problems with the wheel solenoid circuit and SMC1/2 circuit open or shorted.

One mechanic said I needed to replace the entire pump/module for $1300. I had the brakes changed 2.5 months before the light came on. Can anyone offer any advice?

My book also says that the car could have one of two types of ABS systems--Nippondenso or Bosch. How do I tell the difference?
