Engine Performance problem
1983 Toyota Landcruiser V8 Four Wheel Drive Manual

I recently purchased a second hand unit, 1983 Landcruiser. Few observations were:
- leaking engine oil - defective oil seal
- severe vibration causing loosening of bolts
- overheating of the rear right wheels

Please send some light on these matters, I have consulted few shops to repair these, but theproblem recur everytime I use the car on long offroad trails.

Hi there,

the most common oil leaks on these engines are the rear main seal, sump gasket rocker cover gaskets & oil pressure switch, as for the vibration I will need more information, but tyres will be a good place to start, and check that the rear breaks are not over tight and the rear wheel bearings are ok for the rear tyre problem, start here.

Thank you for the quick response.

Vibration and noises are eminent on gravelled roads. Most of the times, vibration causes loosening of the bolts and eventually loses. Adds up to the noise.

As for the leaks, found out yesterday that there was a problem on the breather. Some parts were missing.

I have the tires checked, seems like we really need to adjust the brakes.
