Engine Mechanical problem

car won't start. radio, headlights, A/C come on full power, so assuming the battery is good.

when turning the key, hear a rapidfire clicking and engine won't turn over and start.

i did drive through some torrential rain and puddles yesterday mid afternoon, but the car never stalled or showed any indication of problems during the drive.
