Stalls with accelleration. Toyota

Recently, my car started lunging when I tried to accelerate (it felt like it wanted to stall but didn't) but if I eased (and I mean eased) the gas it would eventually accellerate. I stopped driving the vehicle but when I start it, the engine sounds weak and if I give it any gas, the second I take my foot off the pedal it dies. Then gives a bit of trouble starting. Is this something I can fix or is my best bet to take it to a shop? Thanks!
