Knocking sound

Toyota Corolla 1992 162,300 miles. When the car starts up a knocking sound comes from the piston chamber[ ra-ka-ka-ka]The sound doesn't go away. When you accelerate the car the sound is less spaced apart. The car runs great other than that. Could this be piston slap? Is the pushrod broken?

Either way this is not a good sound and is an impending problem that left unfixed will probably result in the motor being trash and not rebuildable.
