Engine Performance problem
2002 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Automatic 86000 miles

My Toyota, which has been relatively problem-free to this point, after a trip of about 150 miles, we barely have time to pull to the side of the road. First the dashboard lights will dim, then the battery check light will come on, then we lose power and have to pull off the road. The alternator is two years old and has been checked out as fine. The battery has been replaced with a new one. The service engine light stays on all the time now - it is not a problem of not tightening the gas cap - we have checked that. Car seems fine for short trips or daylight trips but the car lights might have something to do with it. Three times now on a 150-mile trip at night, it does the losing power thing. Does anyone have any ideas, I sure would be grateful for any help. It has been to car repair shops, Pep Boys, and Auto Zone with no remedy yet!

It really sounds like your alternator is giving up under a load. Night driving requires the alternator to work harder to power the lights and whatever other accesorries you are using. I would also see what code is stored in the ECM.
