Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 135.00 miles

I have the strange problem that when my car is cold then is in the habit of stalling (or close to it) at the worst of times. After it starts to heat up then it stops stalling but the idle speed is all over the place, from 500rpm up to 1200rpm. Sometimes he behaves so there is no apparent pattern to it.

Also he pollutes like a champ, with a CO2 output of 6.24 at 2000rpm and topping at 9.8 at higher rpms. Also he uses gas like a hummer!

Im not even sure that those two things are related. Sucker wont get through inspection as he is, so any advice that could help would be most appreciated.

Test the coolant temperature sensor and the idle air control valve to include the throttle position sensor.

Seems like the Oxygen sensor in the exhaust was guilty of most of the problems. Switched it out and the car runs much better.
