1998 Toyota Corolla Missing gears!

I was driving my 98 Corolla LE, Manual Tran, when suddenly the lower half of the gear box (2, 4, R) was no longer engageable. I can still put it in 1st 3rd and 5th, but everything below neutral seems to be gone.

What could possibly be going on?

Get the gear selector cables inspected as I feel on has failed, start here.

You have an internal tranny problems-could be synchronizers/bent shift forks/worn detent balls etc.
