Engine Mechanical problem

My car shut off on me the other day but turned right back on. The next day it did it again several times, even when I was driving. So I ended up cleaning the terminals of the battery suspecting that that was the problem. That night, my car shut off while I was on the highway and wouldn't start. So I just left it parked on the side. It seems like my car only drives about 15-25 minutes before shutting off. The electricity in the car worked fine and clicked like it was trying to start but just wouldn't. I had a tune up 4 months ago. The check engine light is not on and the thermostat is on normal. I went back to my car the next day and it started right up. So what could it be?
