Smells problem
1992 Toyota Celica All Wheel Drive Manual 92000 miles

Hi, I just bought a 1992 Toyota GT4 Celica (Japanese Spec). On the 2 hour drive home, there was nothing wrong. However, I started it up this morning and got smoke coming out of it for bout 10-15 seconds. The previous owner stated he had the gasket replaced about a year ago. I'm pretty sure it was white smoke that came out. The car has a turbo in it and I do get an oil light every time I push the clutch in or when the turbo spools up, but it goes back out and doesn't stay on. Is both these problems caused by the same thing? Also, when servicing the oil, do I need to put a little extra oil in it for the turbo? Thanks.

Hi
well if it is indeed white smoke then. Coolant is seeping into the combustion chamber not much a couple drops will cause the eng to smoke for that long.

This minor coolant loss could be a sign of a head gasket leaking a test for hydro carbons would have to be done to verify that.

This could also be a intake gasket seeping. But from the symptomss in your post. One thing is sure it will get worse and be easier to find. I don't think that at this point it is really a prob. So you can wait, or have cooling system tested.

Now the oil light. Is a bigger prob and unrelated to the white smoke. You see the prob with putting turbo on a car is people feel the need to use them lol. You may have a prob with oil pressure at high rpms. If you have a oil pressure GUAGE and it tells you oil pressure is normal then bad oil sensor.

If not you need to have one on engine when light is comeing on. Or you could take the easiest way and just simply replace the oil sensor and see if prob goes away.

No you do not need to add xtra oil for your turbo.
