About 6 mos ago I had a problem with my steering becoming very difficult and was told it could be my rack pinion. Well I was going to get some estimates and after putting it off for a while my steering seems back to normal again. It is no longer difficult. Could the rack and pinion problem just disappear? I don't understand why that happend and why all of a sudden it seems fine as far as the steering goes? Do you think I should still tell the mechanic this when I go and have my other problems checked out?

If there isn't leaks on your power steering system components, as a preventive improvements, I would rec'd flushing the power steering fluids, as if may have been the original fluids since day 1. Flushing the fluids helps improve the smoothness and protections of the steering rack. Lastly, make sure the belts are good and tighten right. Make sure tire pressures are correct.
