When I start drive the car has like a lag keeping up with traffic, I need to press the gas pedal all the way down. It has a hard time starting from a stop light. I replace spark plugs, clabes, rotor and cap all oem thinking it would help. I change the air filter and a defected air hose that connects from the intake manifold to the airfilter box it accualy made it worse. Do I need to change the fuil filter? Please help asap.

Hello,

Poor acceleration can be caused by a clogged fuel filter. So, changing that is a good idea.

However, what you are describing sounds like the timing belt might have gotten worn and skipped a tooth. Which is making it difficult to accelerate. I have seen this happen before that a faulty timing belt can impact acceleration. And typically, it will do that before it breaks.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
