Due to a shops error my oil filter fell off (while I was parking thankfully) because it was the wrong size. They kindly fixed their error by bringing me the right filter and refilling my car with oil. They gave me a free oil change vouture and two free car washes. I'm not really the sueing type, so I was glad they just fixed their mistake. This was at about 117000 miles.

Now, at about 118700 miles, I have started to smell oil burning. I checked my oil tonight and it is very low. My car didn't have this problem prior to the oil filter falling off and I was wondering if the oil filter falling off could have caused my car to "leak" or use abnormal amounts of oil. I'm bringing it into the shop in the morning.

I was wondering if the oil filter falling off could have caused my car to "leak" or use abnormal amounts of oil. You when 1,700 miles for that mileage now 118700 could be just the engine is getting tired due to wear and tear-Valves/rings/cylinder etc
