Temperature Gadge showing over heating but water is cold

My dad broke the temperature sensor on the back of the engine. I replaced it and now it is showing over heating and water is cold. I replaced the sensor and its showing its running hot.

Make sure it's the right one first of all then check for the wire grounding out on the block there are two one for gauge and one for computer.
