2007 Suzuki Forenza check Engine Light

2007 Suzuki Forenza 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 19250 miles
I wa out last week, and my check engine light flashed, as of Friday it has come on and stayed on steady.. I have had regular oil changes and filter changes, along with an all point check for the car..
Why would the light be on if im taking proper car of the car..
