Car ran good this am, after work, started car and noticed rough idle. As pulled out of parking lot, car ran rough, surging, seemed like wasn't hitting on all cylinders noticed burnt smell, didn't know if was rubber or oil, check engine light on flicker first, then on steady. Pulled into gas station, popped the hood, didn't see any problem, checked oil, ok, then noticed small crack in big rubber hose from air filter to intake manifold. Could this be the problem? I tried to sqeeze crack together but it didn't seem to make much difference.

This crack could cause this issue if you have a Mass air flow sensor (MAF). The MAF sensor reads and meters the air coming into the engine. Any un-metered air into the car will make it run rough. Try taping up the crack if you can to see if that helps.
