Help removing starter.

Electrical problem 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 89000 miles

Where do I find the starter? I have followed the positive lead from the battery but it goes into a cover on the top of the engine. Do I need to remove this cover or have I followed the wrong wire?

I removed the cover to find that it was not a cover, but an air feed from the fan to the air intake at the top of the engine. I had followed the wrong wire, but was able to follow the correct wire over the engine and down the other side, but the location it leads to is covered and inaccessible for me. If I once again have followed the wrong wire please inform as such :)

Hello,

The starter is located on the lower side of the engine on the right side under the exhaust manifold. Most people can access it from the bottom here is a guide to help you raise the car up.

Engine problem
2000 GMC Sonoma 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 153000 miles

My truck recently developed the problem of intermittently misfiring when I try to start it. This has lead to it destroying my starter after a number of misfires. The engine is the 2.2L flex fuel version with the distributorless ignition system. I have now replaced the ignition control module, both ignition coils, and the crankshaft position sensor. The engine idles smoothly and runs fine under load and is not showing any error codes. The only other thing I can think to replace to fix this would be to get a replacement ECM. Is it likely the ECM that has been causing my truck to continue to destroy starters? Should replacing the ECM fix this misfiring during starting problem? Thanks in advance, Michael.

Did you use aftermarket ignition parts. Ive found brand new aftermarket coils to have a varied resistance of what it is supposed to be. 5-8 thousand ohms. Keep us posted what you find, ill do some research for bulletins tomorrow when I get to work. I know there was a technical bulletin for crank sensors causing this exact problem but I think it was only on v6 and v8. Ill double check.

I did use aftermarket ignition parts, I metered the primary and secondary sides on both new coils before installing them, the resistance values were all within the range specified in my Haynes manual. I forgot to mention that I also replaced my battery in addition to the other ignition parts at the same time.

My starter is re engaging after the motor has already started and will restart with the key in the on position. I replaced the starter because it re engaged and burned up. And I replaced the ignition switch

Sounds like you've got a wire shorted to ground. Start with the ones at the starter and work back
