My car recently passed a smog check yet it always emits dark smoke that smells like burning oil for about twenty seconds after it has been started baring in mind that it is a 20 year old car with almost 180000 miles on it, should I be concerned?

Black smoke means it is burning rich and when it ocurs during cold starts, that can mean the catalytic convefrter is not efficient as it should be.

Nothing to worry unless engine performance is affected.
