My interior lights stay on, battery disconnect / reconnect fixes problem
This issue has happened twice in the past 2 years. Both occured on cold days once after being parked overnight and the other while being parked for an hour. The car will start but will not continue running more than 2 seconds. I will try to start several times and the same occurs.

Both times the car was towed. After the car was towed, it was noted that the interior dome lights would stay lit. To keep the battery from dying, I would disconnect the battery. After reconnecting the battery, the car would start no problem and run just fine and all lights worked as expected.

No relevant codes found. Mechanic at the dealer could not duplicate the issue after reconnecting the battery.

Any ideas?

Thank you. The codes were from a residential diagnosis tool (bought at Costco) plugged into the dash input on the drivers side. Only codes were cylinder misfire and trans fluid code. Did not note the fuel or temp guage, but the door locks and the keyless entry did not work.

Now the car is working. I will definately make a note of the items you brought up. I did not notice the security light. I think it did flash initially when the car started along with the rest of the dashboard. Thanks for your notes about what to look for next time. The last time this happened was 2 years ago, so hopefully it is another 2 years before it happens ago. Does it makes sense that unplugging the battery terminal would reset the computer system? Like a Windows reboot?

It would be more like when your cell phone locks up which is called logic lock. You then have to turn it off and on again to reset it. They are craming more and more in a smaller and smaller package these days. Even the new radios are getting logic lock these days and the onstar computers as well. Keep me posted and we will go from there.

The security light keeps blinking and I cannot lock the doors with the remote because of this and the alarm keeps going off occasionally too. Never happened before.

You need to have the computer scanned for the check engine light. However, the security light can leave you stranded. It needs to be checked by a dealer to see what it causing it to come on.

After driving for about 30 minutes the security light starts to flicker. The dashboard lights, radio & headlights flicker also. The door locks stop working. If I continue driving the other indicators on the dash are affected. The service engine soon light and wrench light comes on. The temp gauge, gas gauge and tach go dead but the car still runs. When attached to a scanner at my mechanics the computer is recognized by no data can be retrieved from my car. I have to drive a 4 hour trip very soon. Can you help me figure out what is wrong and how to fix it. Will I be safe? Can the security system be disabled.

It sounds like u have a bad body control module that's more then just ur security system. It's the computer that controls ur door locks keyless entry fuel Gauge inside lights pretty much everything ur describing that's not working. Thats really the only thing that makes sense bad body control module when they fail they do crazy stuff like that. Ur best bet is take it to ur Saturn dealer and tell them what's happening when u replace the body control module it has to be programed by there service stall. It's not a big job to change them.I wouldn't make that 4hr drive without having that fixed it will leave stranded eventually it's only a matter of time before that part of it fails to starting and running functions. Let me know how it goes and what they find.I have seen alot of those fail and on the ls model saturns as well they fail the same way I have a bunch of old tester body control module because of the high failer rate. Good luck to u.

I have a 2003 Saturn Vue. The security light has been on and off for the last year. It does not affect starting gauges or any other accessory. I ran my tech 2 to check for dtc, but did not come up with any. No codes stored in the bcm. I replaced the ignition. My GM tech tool was hooked while driving and waited till the security light came on before I checked for codes.

I have a 2003 saturn vue. The security light has been on and off for the last year. No problems in starting or any gauges or anything that is wired into the body control module. I scanned with my gm tech 2 and came up with no codes. Security light was on when I hooked up my tech 2. I have replaced the ignition cylinder with new key assembly and passlock sensor. Still light comes on and off. I also replaced the tin connector on the passlock sensor with a copper coated connector. Ive been reading more articles on this and should check the passlock sensor voltage with car off and igition in run condition. Gm mechanic states it is common for the harness off the passlock sensor to the bcm has a tendency to get high resistance. Any more troubleshooting ideas?

So you replace the ignition housing that contains the pass lock sensor.

Alright let me know what you find most of the ones I have seen like that have been a bad pass lock sensor but those set codes or a bad body control module.

Ok, I ran the test with my tech 2 and commmanded the security light on and off. It works fine. According to a 28 year gm vetereran mechanic the voltage at the run position (with car off) should be at least 5.0 volts, mine was 4.75. Do you have any more specifications. I think I need to clean contacts at the bcm and check for high resistance in the passlock harness.
