Smoke coming from sterring wheel

1997 Saturn Sport Coupe 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual
When I started the car the windshield wipers was on so I turned them off and instantly noticed smoke coming from the sterring collem. Turned off the engine and looked to see where it eas coming from and it appears to be from the windshield wiper switch. Can the switch be replaced or do I have to replace the whole collem?

u have to take the air bag off steering wheel off air bag coil off then it comes as a assembley u get both levers together the steering column shaft slips thru the switch assembley.let me know what u find.
